QB Brock Purdy Thread

"Rarely drops any" I can think of several potential ints that were dropped just these past two games

Warner was as deadly accurate as he was agressive....he wasn't just 'throwing it up' to Fitzgerald/Boldin.

He's just protecting the player who plays the same position, much like all the ex-players do nowadays on TV/twitter/etc. The problem is his average arm can't keep up with his agressive mindset. Last nights game, I had no real issues with his decisions however....they were just piss poor throws.

The whole Brees 2.0 thing is ridiculous, he will never be that. Drew was an elite processor and deadly accurate. Tight window thrower. Great mechanics.

Brock could play more like Steve Young imo. He's way more athletic and twitchy than people give him credit for. Could have had 50 yards rushing and multiple 1sts (with at least one less INT) last night.

free yards all over the place for him last night.

Brock has shown to be an elite processor and Brees has said that Purdy reminds him of himself but I digress lol.

And I agree about Young, I think we saw some of that during this game..as far as using his legs. He was nice and scrambly out there and got some 1st downs. And I have been saying he is more athletic than ppl give him credit for. He has super strong legs..use them more

I can't tell what happened with the offense. Were they just off in the passing game? Was Brock just inaccurate and those picks shouldn't have been picks? Did they not take the panthers D as serious as they should and tried new things? Forced new things? Was this just a bad game that we got out the way? I'm nervous of which Brock will show up now

If he keeps doing it over the next few games then that is another story.

I am defo not writing off Brock for a good while. I fing love this dude, just hope he gets back to his old self. He made a couple of bad plays, all the good qbs do. But he has to kinda tighten up his game as we head for the playoffs. He seems off lately. Is he overly confident at times and it interferes with his decision making? Is it Toyotathon?

I wouldn't call it overconfidence. He was just making a decision he normally would do but his muscle memory or whatever you call it was a bit off from lack of use. He just needs game time to sharpen it all up. I am not worried about him.
Feel like a lot goes into the failure. We don't have any speed at receiver so no seperation for easy throws (does kyle ever scheme easy throws?), We didn't scout horn properly to realize we cant jump ball him with our beat up crew. And brock stayed with the nfl "deep ball" narrative, didn't use his instincts to go off the receiver, improvise, and find a safer throw. Everyone has a stinky day. Joe had 4 picks in a game once, and threw three picks in "the catch" game.

You think it's his muscle memory being rusty? Not sure about that. But I am not trippin like other posters that love to talk trade and Sam Darnold after every int lol

The second int was absolutely a poor decision. There was room to scramble for the first and Kittle was there as well.

That would have been the better way to go but he did have Pearsall so the read isn't awful all things considered. It was just terriblely under thrown. Not an easy throw though given the situation and absolutely should have just hit kittle for high percentage completion and first down.

You don't get to continue to use the "elite" processing praise, when it's not consistent though. Cool Brees sees an undersized white QB with a subpar arm, much like himself. Brees is by far more accurate than Brock. Outside of one amazing season from Brock we've gotten injuries and mid level play. It's the truth unfortunately.

you can't pay a guy a $265M and have him floating out INTs, especially when his backup is doing just fine with the same (or worse) talent around him.

If he's not seeing the field well, use your legs to make some positive plays and take what's there. I know you're gonna be positive on Brock no matter what, but sometimes we gotta call like it is….doesn't mean he can't get back to playing like he did in 2023, but he simply hasn't been that for a little bit

The narrative in 2023 was that Purdy was a product of the system surrounded by elite talent. I think that may be partly true now.

He has less talent around him and is trying to do too much. Mac Jones had the most YPG in the league taking what the D gave and not making mistakes.

We are lucky that those 3 picks didn't lose the game. A good team would have put us away. Purdy can't play like that going forward if we want to beat the better teams.

I just have no idea why we were in such a rush to extend him a year early. That might have been very bad mistake and I think we massively overpaid.

Poor accuracy.
Poor decision making.
Unawareness of play clock.

this is our franchise quarterback, and we're having to deal with this. does not bode well for him if it continues. keep in mind that Mac Jones was always Kyle's number one choice. if Brock keeps this up, I'd prefer we go with th sure hand.
The kid is regressing at an alarming pace. His best skill currently is the qb sneak. He nearly had 5 interceptions last night. Defenders are baiting him and he is biting more than is acceptable. Below average arm strength + poor accuracy and bad decisions don't go well together. He was using his feet to bailout and run but that wasn't the case last night or last week. He is heading into dangerous territory with a lat of fans that are beginning to turn on him for poor performance. It's Jimmy g all over again. I hate this for him and hope he can turn things around before it gets worse. The last thing we need is another Jimmy g.

I don't think we overpaid him in terms of value. It's not like Brock signed a record setting QB contract extension. OTOH did we even have a choice ? Who knew that Mac Jones could or would revive his career here ? We saw what happened with our backups last year.

I think Kyle just has a bad eye for talent. He's a great offensive play caller so he can make any avg Joe look good but too bad he doesn't have the skills to spot true talent at the QB position. Between Beathard, Jimmy G, Trey, and now a down trending Brock, the situation doesn't feel good. Meanwhile Sam Darnold has been lighting it up for the second year in a row. Everyone was laughing at his 4 INT game vs LA, meanwhile our own guy tried his hardest to best him. I counted 2 potential INT throws in addition to the 3 he already had thrown last night. Awful
